Our Doctors

Dr Murray Dougall

Murray is the practice principal, graduating from the University of Western Australia in 1991 and undertook specific general practice training, gaining the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners fellowship in 1995. He has a wide area of interest in all aspects of general practice patient care ranging from the newborn to the elderly including minor procedures, complex medical problems and chronic disease.

Dr Ash Arora

Dr Arora qualified from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland in 1992, and worked in Ireland and the UK before moving to Australia in 2010 where he has worked as a GP in rural and semi-rural settings and held hospital admitting rights in South Australia. He has been practising in Perth since 2012 and has special expertise in dermatology, skin assessments, and skin surgery including complicated procedures. He also has a special interest in chronic disease management, sports injuries, care of the elderly, occupational medicine, palliative care, joint injections and general medicine. He has a passion for cosmetic procedures and his current interest is the diagnostic use of ultrasound in clinical medicine.

Dr Arora has twenty year’s experience in several medical specialities including oncology/radiotherapy, anaesthetics and ICU medicine, psychiatry, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology and general medicine. Dr Arora has worked in children's hospice and as a Forensic Medical Examiner. He held a position as a tutor and examiner for the Diploma in Dermatology at Cardiff University (Wales, UK) for 1 year.

Dr Arora worked in the Royal Air Force (UK) for 5 years as a Senior Medical Officer holding the rank of Squadron Leader. During his commission with the RAF he was deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Falkland Islands. He has experience in aeromedical evacuation of casualties and was part of an Incident Response Team (IRT) involved with the management and transport of casualties by helicopter in Iraq. He holds a commendation by the General Officer Commanding for his contribution to the IRT. During this time he held certificates in Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Life Support.

Dr Arora is a proud Australian Citizen and is married with two children. He has many sporting interests and enjoys cooking.

Dr Maureen Evans

Maureen is an NSW graduate and has worked in NSW, NZ, Tasmania, UK, rural WA and now Perth. Her interests are all aspects of general practice.

Dr Samantha Johnson

Dr Samantha Johnson is a local graduate who previously worked at Fremantle Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital before switching to general practice. Her special interests are:

Women's health - contraception (Implanon/IUD insertion and removals), antenatal and postnatal care, unplanned pregnancy counselling/referrals/management (medical termination of pregnancy prescriber), and cervical screening.

Sexual health - STI screening and management, Hepatitis B+C management (S100 prescriber), HIV prophylaxis (PrEP prescriber).

Dr Johnson enjoys working with a diverse range of patients and has a commitment to providing non-judgemental medical care.

Outside of medicine, she can be found running around a netball court or running her two sons around.

Dr William Remedios

Dr Willam Remedios is leaving us on Wednesday 12th February 2020.

After three years with Burton Street Family Practice Dr Remedios has decided to move on.

Dr Remedios has been a valued member of our practice and will be missed by patients and colleagues. 

Dr Olga Ward

Olga is a procedural GP who maintains active involvement with country work via regular clinics with RFDS. She also enjoys teaching students and working in palliative care and aviation medicine. Apart from general practice, her other work involves the support and education of rural GPs.

Erika Ballack

Erika is an experienced registered nurse who works as a chronic disease management nurse and in the treatment room as required.

Esther Leenhouwers

Esther is a highly experienced nurse who trained at Royal Perth Hospital and worked in emergency for twelve years. She has been working as a practice nurse for 25 years and manages our treatment room.

Our friendly and knowledgeable administrative staff work cohesively to facilitate the smooth running of our practice. They efficiently balance the demand for appointments with other duties, such as responding to telephone calls and supporting the clinical staff to ensure your needs are met appropriately. They are dedicated to helping you and are committed to upholding the practice mission and values.

Our Allied Professional Support

Dr Eugenie Nicolandis,

Podiatrist/Podiatric Surgeon

BHSc (Podiatry), MHSc(Podiatry), DClinPod (Foot Surgery)

Eugenie completed her Bachelor of Podiatry in New Zealand in 2004 and worked as a locum before moving to Brisbane where she was the Coordinator of Podiatry at Princess Alexandra Hospital for three years where her main focus was working in a Multidisciplinary High-Risk Foot Clinic. She returned to Perth and continued her training with an emphasis on autoimmune diseases and diabetic wound care (feet) and sports medicine. She has completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine and a Masters in Health Science. In 2017 she completed her Doctorate of Clinical Podiatry which allows her to help more people with acute or chronic foot issues, guiding them with an informed decision prior to having any surgery to their feet.

Eugenie is very passionate about foot health and encourages patients to continue physical activity whilst having a chronic condition. She also enjoys presenting at community and hospital events to create better awareness of better foot health. She continues in private practice and has held senior hospital podiatry positions throughout her career.

Tania Balfas,

Dietitian (APD) BSc (Nutrition), Post Grad Dip (Diet)

Tania is an accredited practising dietitian and a member of the Dietitians Association of Australia. She completed her Bachelors in Nutrition and Postgraduate degree in Dietetics at Curtin University. She has experience with various conditions and is passionate about assisting people to achieve their health goals. Her areas of interest include diabetes, weight management, heart health, irritable bowel syndrome, osteoporosis, malnutrition, paediatric nutrition and healthy eating for all age groups.

She provides one-on-one counselling to clients whilst taking into consideration their personal situations (lifestyle, family needs) and preferences to provide them with advice that is achievable. Tania provides her clients with knowledge that is evidence-based and is most up-to-date with the current research.
